What is a dyslexia assessment?

A dyslexia assessment is a detailed evaluation that helps identify whether someone has dyslexia or another specific learning difficulty. It involves standardised tests that look at areas like reading, writing, memory, and phonological processing. You’ll receive a clear report and practical recommendations to support learning at school, home, or work.

What happens after the assessment?

You’ll receive a detailed written report after 14 days, along with clear, personalised advice on next steps. This may include support strategies, school recommendations, referrals, or tuition options if needed.

What is an Assessment Practising Certificate (APC)?

An Assessment Practising Certificate, or APC, is a professional qualification that shows a specialist teacher is trained and approved to carry out diagnostic assessments for specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia or dyscalculia. It means I’ve completed a recognised course (approved by SASC or AMBDA) and met the high standards required to assess, diagnose, and write reports that are accepted by schools, exam boards, and universities—including for things like Exam Access Arrangements or DSA (Disabled Students’ Allowance).

In short, it’s your reassurance that you’re working with someone qualified, experienced, and up to date with current guidance.

At what age can a dyslexia assessment be done?

Formal assessments can usually be carried out from age 7 and up because before this an individual’s development can vary greatly. However, early signs of dyslexia may appear before this, and we also offer screening sessions to help guide early support for younger children.

Is the assessment suitable for school or university support?

Yes. Our full diagnostic assessments follow current guidelines and are suitable for submitting to schools, exam boards, and for applying for Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA) at university.

What is specialist dyslexia tuition?

Specialist tuition is 1:1 support tailored to the learner’s individual needs. It may focus on reading, spelling, writing, study skills, or confidence building. Sessions are structured, multi-sensory, and designed to help learners develop effective strategies in a positive, supportive environment. Sessions can be face to face or on Zoom. Tuition can also be arranged to take place in school.
